The 12 Minute Ritual

November Return to Calm

Return to self. Return to calm. Return to the things that bring us joy. This series is our practice of return, a monthly reminder that reset does not punish. It invites us home.

Together we're learning to sit with the in between. Slow mornings. Evenings that hum. You told me about open windows and slower coffees. You told me about tiny wins that made life feel like yours again. From this month, on the twelfth, we will gather for twelve minutes and practise a gentle reset that is simply a return.

November asks for softness. The light leans in and the air grows cool. I must admit, I am not loving waking up in the dark and going to bed in the dark. This time of year is harsher on some of us who suffer with seasonal affective disorder.

It is a good month to practice loving yourself. Not a grand declaration, but a quiet yes to what you need.

Each month you will find a short ritual you can complete in real time.

One scene. One surface. One message. One breath. We are not reinventing life. We are choosing a few small, beautiful things that make it feel like ours.

Thank you for reading, sharing, and telling me about your own in between days. I loved the tiny wins you shared. Windows cracked for a breath of cool air, slower coffees that asked nothing of you, and a little less pressure on busy evenings. Some of you are starting your days with matcha, lemon, and water, giving your mornings a calm, steady lift. Your home resets inspired me too, from one cleared corner and a single sprig in a jar to the first note in a new gratitude stash. I have recently regained my confidence in publishing my writing and I cannot thank you enough for reading, commenting, and sending me messages in my DMs as well. Some of you named a boundary for Monday and felt the ground steady. Others pressed play on jazz letting the room hold you. Let us keep building these small scenes together. One surface. One message. One breath. A return to the self that we can repeat.

Tonight, something simple we can all finish.

Set the room, starting with low lighting. Open the window a touch if the air is kind. Put on music that tells the body it is safe. Light a calm evening scent of your choice. Pour a glass of water or chamomile tea, or a small pour of something rich if that suits your night. This scene can happen anywhere. A moment to yourself in the car before you go inside, on the sofa, in your room, even in the bathroom. Make the ritual yours.

The 12 minute ritual

Set a timer

Set a timer for twelve minutes and lay a little order. Choose one surface that has been calling your name. Clear it. Wipe it. Place one lovely thing there. A candle, a sprig of rosemary in a jar, or your favourite cup, then light your evening scent.

Touch the heart

Send one appreciation message to someone who deserves your thanks. Name one boundary for tomorrow that protects your peace. Write one line of gratitude and place it in your notepad or even on your phone.

Set the mind & body

Breathe slowly to thirty or roll your shoulders until they drop. Choose one non-negotiable for tomorrow and write it where your morning eyes will meet it.

Close

Blow out the candle. Let the room exhale with you. Carry gentleness into sleep.

Tomorrow Kinder.

The November playlist is live. Some slow jazz, some blues and soul, with a little piano to soften the edges. Think Shirley Horn for your breathing. Bill Evans while you clear the surface. Barry White to remind you that you deserve this moment for self. And Samara Joy as the flame settles and the room turns warm. November Reset Playlist - Press Play.

Try it tonight

Set a 12-minute timer. Keep it small. Keep it repeatable. Meet yourself where you are.

Next on the blog is November Reset, our longer guide to returning in this season. Expect more scent, texture and sound, plus a simple checklist to carry you through the week. Watch for it later this month.

Until then, keep your scenes simple and your compassion close, in others words - don't do too much and be kind to yourself.

With love always,

Mon ♡
